ONDO 2024: AKURE AGOG AS PDP ‘FREEDOM WALK’ ACHIEVES MASSIVE SUCCESS
…Jubilant residents declare total support for the Agbofessy ticket
What was intended as a sensitisation walk through the Akure metropolis to rally support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidates ahead of the November 16 gubernatorial election quickly transformed into a carnival-like celebration. Residents in their thousands lined the streets to welcome Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, his running mate, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, and other party bigwigs.
The carnival-like event began at the popular Adegbemile Cultural Centre, where a live band entertained the crowd, with party leaders, members, and various interest groups gathered in large numbers, as they move around the major streets of Akure. The event sent a clear and powerful message to potential election manipulators: “Ondo is not Edo.” Furthermore, it reinforced the PDP’s growing popularity in Akure, showing the party as the frontrunner in the upcoming election.
The highlight of the event was the presence of the gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi and his running mate, Hon. Festus Akingbaso. Their presence ignited a wave of excitement among the residents, who expressed their joy and declared that the movement to rescue and redefine Ondo State had officially begun. They affirmed that the ruling APC has nothing more to offer, insisting that it was time to show them the exit door.
Engineer Clement Faboyede, Director-General of the PDP State Campaign Council, also addressed the crowd. He warned of the dangers of voting for the APC in November and urged the people of Akure to turn out in large numbers to vote for the PDP. He stressed that the current administration had failed to deliver any notable projects since taking over and, as such, does not deserve re-election but rejection.
Furthermore, Faboyede maintained that during the PDP era, the Akure metropolis was ranked the neatest capital city in Nigeria but today under Apc and its clueless Governor the most cleanest city then has become a shadow of itself, an eyesore and glorified village. He urged the people of Akure to use the November election as a referendum on the Apc either to remain in Egypt or to set themselves free from shackles of poverty, decay infrastructure, maladministration and so on.
Also speaking, former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Amb. Omolade Oluwateru, who’s also PDP leader in Akure South, enjoined the residents of Akure not to panic in expressing their feelings during the November governorship election by voting against party who has brought nothing but untold hardship to the people. He noted that the good old days are here again if only they can resist all forms of intimidation and ensure PDP’s returned to power.
Despite brief showers, the resilient and enthusiastic participants continued the walk as they spread the message of hope to Akure voters. The mammoth crowd resolved emphatically that on 16th November 2024, the date of the governorship election, there should be no alternative to the PDP and its candidates. They asserted that with the PDP in power, Ondo State would be in safer hands.
Other prominent leaders at the event included His Excellency Ambassador Omolade Oluwateru, former Deputy Governor of Ondo State; Hon. Bakita Bello, Acting PDP State Chairman; the PDP State Secretary and other executive members; Hon. Jide Oguntodu, Minority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly; Mr. Lade Fasua; Hon. Niyi Delly; Hon. Demola Babalola, former Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly; Comrade Gbenga Jegede; Elder Faaji Adewumi; Mr. Oladimeji Busuyi, PDP Chairman Akure South LGA; Alhaji Ganiyu Ogbera; Hon. Afe Ifedayo; Mr. Ayo Fadaka; Dr. Tayo Olujuyigbe, PDP Akure South Campaign Director-General; Babatunde Faro; and Mr. Tayo Egunjobi, among others.
