ONDO @ 50: OYEDELE TO DELIVER ANNIVERSARY LECTURE AS GOVERNMENT UNVEILS ACTIVITIES
The Ondo State Government has unveiled a lineup of activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state, with Professor Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee set to deliver the anniversary public lecture.
This was unveiled by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, following a meeting of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, the government described the golden jubilee as a historic milestone celebrating five decades of growth, resilience, cultural pride, and progressive governance.
The anniversary public lecture, themed “Ondo State: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” will hold on Monday, February 2, 2026, time is 10:00 am. at The International Event Centre, The Dome, Akure. It will be delivered by Prof. Oyedele and chaired by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Energy, Mrs. Olu Verheijen, will also speak at the event.
Activities will begin on Thursday, January 29, 2026, with a World Press Conference at the Government House, Akure.
A Jumat Service will follow on Friday, January 30 at the Central Mosque, Akure while a Thanksgiving Service is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, Isinkan.
On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa will address residents through a State Broadcast at 7:00 am.
A State Carnival featuring cultural displays and performances will hold later at the Ondo State Sports Stadium, Akure.
The celebration will end with a Gala and Award Night at The International Event Centre, The Dome where outstanding sons and daughters of the state will be honoured.
The state government has invited residents, indigenes in the diaspora, and friends of Ondo State to participate in the golden jubilee celebration.
