…As Vice Chancellor commends Tinubu for the Students Loan Fund with over 300million disbursed to 3,281 FUOYE beneficiaries
The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has confirmed the elevation of 20 senior academic staff members to the prestigious rank of Professor in the last three months.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, disclosed this at a pre-convocation briefing at the university campus to herald the 9th convocation ceremony of the institution.
Among the newly elevated erudite scholars are Prof. (Mrs.) Tolulope Ariyomo, a first-class graduate of the Federal University of Technology Akure and the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, who is now a full professor of Behavioral Ecology and Aquatic Toxicology with effect from October 2024.
Also confirmed as full professors are distinguished scholars such as Prof. (Mrs) Abibath Adubiaro, the Secretary to the Government of Ekiti State whose promotion also took effect from October 2024.
Other newly elevated dons are Prof. (Mrs) Medinat Adekoya, Prof. Olusayo Olubosede, and 17 other eminent scholars.
The Governing Council took the decision at its meeting on Wednesday 19th of February 2025.
Fasina lauded the Federal Government for providing succor for 3,281 vulnerable students of the institution through Nigeria Education Loan Funds (NELFUND).
According to him, N305.757m has been disbursed by NELFUND to beneficiaries in FUOYE, saying that many students who were unable to pay their school fees have been relieved of the burden.
Fasina has said that four notable Nigerians, including two former Attorneys General and Ministers of Justice of the Federation, Kanu Godwin Agabi, and Bayo Ojo, will be conferred with honorary degree awards at the convocation ceremony.
Others to be honoured are the Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Segun Alebiosu, as well as Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace Airline.
177 students of FUOYE bagged First Class honours out of 8,444 students graduating at the convocation.
