ONDO-BORN MEDIA PRACTITIONER, AYO DURODOLA’S CONTRIBUTIONS ATTRACT AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FROM NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS

The various contributions of an Ondo-born media practitioner and public servant, Mr. Ayo Durodola to development of journalism practice and effective communication have attracted recognition from the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Mr Ayo Durodola who began media practice in Akure the Ondo State capital has worked with various local and International organisations in the process of promoting communication skills.
He has also played significant roles in capacity development while his passion for promotion of culture and tradition have continued to encourage stakeholders in the sector.
In recognition of his various roles, the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists is to confer on this international media personality the an Award of Excellence as DISTINGUISHED MEDIA AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR.
Durodola has been sponsoring no fewer than nine categories of awards during the Press Week Celebrations of the Ondo NUJ in honour of mentors and veterans for two years.
It is part of the media guru’s efforts to encourage upcoming professionals and contribute to the development of the media practice in Ondo State and beyond.
According to a statement made public by the union led by Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, the award of excellence would be presented to the Owo-born Durodola at the awards night of the union as part of the ongoing 2024 Press Week Celebrations slated for Friday December 13th at the Press Center in Alagbaka in Akure.
“We appreciate your support to the socio-economic development of the society especially the downtrodden. We have the greatest honour and privilege to inform you that you have been nominated for the by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council”.
“This followed your emergence after due screening and subsequent approval by the Union’s leadership. As members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm with the constitutional role of the watchdog of the society, we hold integrity and fairness in high esteem”.
“Thus, NUJ Award, which is the BIGGEST and MOST CREDIBLE in Ondo State, is based on the principle of Truth and Justice of which you are found worthy Your track records as a philanthropist, Media Professional and Promoter of Community Development over the years have not gone unnoticed by Nigerians and members of our noble journalism profession”
Ayo Durodola was born in Benin City in the mid 70s to late Princess Veronica and Chief Tunde Durodola.
His father was the first son of late Chief Yusuf Durodola, the Olugboroko of Owo while his mother was of the Eweka dynasty of Benin.
Ayo cut his teeth in broadcasting in Ondo State Radiovison Corporation in 1997 and has never looked back since.
He started off as an announcer and quickly became a presenter ,then a producer.
He honed his skills in both radio and TV presentation and production and was a delight to watch or listen to on his shows.
He is known to have crossed the lines of code-mixing with finesse as he could present programs to relate with his diverse audience which cuts across societal strata and languages.
He has produced programmes for legends and popular names in the industry.
The likes of Segun Babs of Ile Alayo, Yemi Sonde, Kola Olootu had felt his touch on their programmes.
He was greatly influenced by legends like late Alhaji Abbas Akinwande who he produced on “Time for Highlife”, Ayo Ogedengbe, Ayo Omotosho whom he produced on the program” Love Zone”, Fatai Dan-Wahab who greatly inspired him, Soni Irabor, Larry King, Walter Cronkite, Frank Edoho, Veronica Osawere, Sadiq Daba, Yinka Craig among others.
Over the years, he has worked with local and international media outfits like OSRC, Voice Of Nigeria and Voice of America and has consulted for many.
He holds a few diplomas and degrees in Journalism, History and International relations, Mass Communication, Strategic Planning and multimedia.
Ayo Durodola is married and blessed with children.
