
ONDO GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES SHASHA COMMUNITY HEALTH
Ondo State Government has commissioned a new Primary Health Centre in Sasha Community in Akure North Local Government Area in the state for prompt access to healthcare services in the community
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka while performing the commissioning of the Health centre said the desire of the governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu was to bring quality healthcare services to the people of the state regardless of their tribe, religion, gender or political affiliation
He posited that the government had imprinted its indelible mark through better healthcare services to the people of the state by positioning agencies that would strengthen the healthcare delivery.
In his words, “the government has put in place Ondo State Drugs and Health Management Agency where you can get quality drug at affordable price, cheaper than what you get outside, the government even gives credit window of a month to pay up for the drug supplied by the Agency for all Public facilities in the state”.
The commissioner who was represented by the Director, Pharmaceutical Services of the Ondo State Ministry of Health, Pharm Oluwole Lasekan charged the community to collectively work to end hawking of drugs in the market place while emphasizing that allowing street hawkers would disallow patronage from the people of the community which he said might work against the thriving of health centre
He noted that the government had done a lot in the health sector hence the people of the state should appreciate the commitment and the benevolence of Mr Governor.
Speaking about some of the strategic intervention to strengthen the health sector in Ondo state, the commissioner said the governor signed into law the operationalization of the Ondo state Drug and Health Management Agency which has made drug available and affordable to the people, the upgrading of a primary, secondary facilities, Upgrading of UNIMED hospital in Akure to 500 beds capacity, Contributory Health Scheme for all workers in the state and free antenatal and delivery services under the contribution Health scheme.
According to a statement signed by media manager in the ministry, he announced that the government was set to commence the Registration of the informal sector under the Contributory Health Scheme and he advised them to key into the programme as a community to access quality care.
He also informed them that the government was ready to employ about 1000 health workers in the state while promising them that the community would have enough hands to work in the facility. He congratulated them on the completion and the commissioning of the project.
The representative of the Ondo State Committee on Social Development Agency, Mr Oluwole Olokungbemi said the project was funded through the intervention project fund of the World bank through the Ondo State Government under the Ondocares programme and the project was completed in 60 days.
The Seriki of Sasha community, Alhaji Sheik Ibrahim appreciated the government for providing the fund as well as the committee put in place for the project by the community while noting that Sasha community had continue the enjoy the commitment of this administration as the BHC was the third project in their community in the life of this administration.
The Iyaloja of Sasha market, Chief (Mrs) Abidakun Bosede appreciated the government for funding the project and for delivering promptly while saying the women in the community would have quick access to health care services when they are sick and when they want to give birth.
