ONDO HOS, BAYO PHILIP PRAISES WORKERS’ COMMITMENT, LAUDS AIYEDATIWA’S DISPOSITION

-as Labour demands implementation of new living wage

The Ondo State Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip expressed satisfaction on the commitment of workers in the state, saying their patriotism has been exceptional.

Philip made this known while addressing the year 2024 Workers’Day rally held at the Gani Freedom Arcade ground in Akure the state capital on Wednesday.

Stressing that the workers have had a fair deal under the administration of the State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, which he described as the government of the workers by the workers for the workers, Mr Philip appliances the worker-friendliness posture of the government.

‘On the side of the government , Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Administration is demonstrably committed to addressing the concerns of workers, serving and retired, and this administration is doing so sincerely and promptly.’ Philip said.

‘What fair deal could be more than a government that does not owe the workers any arrears of salary, pension or promotion?’

‘What measure of worker+friendliness could be more than confronting the issue of inherited arrears of pension and gratuity frontally , settling them in sustained instalments.’

‘In all fairness, how can we describe a government that gives priority consideration to the health and wellbeing of its workforce and their dependants?’ He added.

‘I must give kudos to our workers and and the leadership of the Organised Labour in the state. In the space of two months that I have been privileged to be in the saddle as the Head of Service, I have seen the patriotism and maturity of the Organised Labour in dealing with the government and the commitment of our Public Servants to effective service delivery.’

‘We have agreed that all hands must be on deck to achieve our shared focus – don’t deliver short, don’t deliver late’. This is the way we can reengineer our work process and adjust our work ethos to ensure this administration delivers on its mandate.’ The HoS further noted.

In his address, the state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Victor Akoko thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for
stating on a good note by off setting inherited January 2017 arrears owed workers and pensioners, out right payment of 1.2m for 2013 retirees’ gratuity among other things.

While urging the tripartite committee set up the President Bola Tinubu on the new living wage to expedite action on their mandate, Amoko implored the Ondo State Government to immediately commence the process of domesticate the agreed wage by the federal government and Organised Labour without further delay.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Fatuase Clement, appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for paying ₦35,000 wage award as approved by federal government, making the first state to pay in the federation.
