The Ondo State Office of the National Population Commission has embarked on a road show to sensitise residents of the state on the importance of the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census slated for next year.
The sensitisation exercise which also had in attendance representatives of the National Orientation Agency was kicked off at the popular NEPA market in the state capital and ran through Arakale road, Oba Adesida road, Cathedral area, ‘A’ Division as well as High Court road and many other strategic areas in the capital city.
The National Population Commission was led by the Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State, Dr. Diran Iyantan while the National Orientation Agency was led by the State Director, Mrs. Funmilayo Adefolalu.
The event attracted other stakeholders who included the representatives of market women better known as Iyalojas, artisans and others.
Speaking with newsmen, the Federal Commissioner, Dr. Diran Iyantan said the exercise was part of the processes being put in place to ensure that all stakeholders are carried along in ensuring that the forthcoming exercise becomes a success.
Iyantan called on residents of Ondo State to cooperate with the enumerators who would be moving from one area to the other to obtain necessary data that would assist government to plan for the populace.
He emphasized that census remains one of the required strategies that would create an enabling environment for government to plan and project for the people.
Similarly, the state director of National Orientation Agency, Mrs. Funmilayo Adefolalu said community leaders, artisans, youth organizations as well as faith-based organisations are being involved to facilitate the involvement of those at the grassroots.
She said rallies had been held with students to educate them on their social responsibilities as they are always taken into consideration, stressing that they constitute the most active segment of the society.
