The Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Environment, Mr. Oyeniyi Oseni has commended the management and staff of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency for living up to expectations as the leading environmental regulatory agency in Nigeria.
The Special Adviser gave the commendation at the end of a two- day working visit of the top management of Ondo Environmental Protection Agency O’SEPA to understudy the operations of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).
Hon. Oseni who led the team said the visit provided a veritable opportunity for Ondo Environmental watchdog to learn from experienced hands on how to perform their functions in justification of Governor Akeredolu administration’s investment in achieving a wealthy environment.
While applauding the Lagos State Government for putting in place a world class environmental regulatory structure to rid the State of environmental pollution and safeguard environmental quality that is consistent with the health, social and economic needs of a smart city, like Lagos, the Special Adviser opined that the visit was informed by the need to replicate the development to improve the environmental conditions of Ondo people through effective compliance monitoring.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Media and Advocacy of O’SEPA, Prince Bolu Ajijo, Hon. Oseni commended the vision of Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in establishing O’SEPA assuring that the team would strategise towards giving life to the green environment policy of the state government .
The Special Adviser did not fail to commend the new phase of LASEPA under the able leadership of the Dr Dolapo Fasawe who is the General Manager of the agency.
He said “frankly speaking, LASEPA has moved a notch higher in environmental management of Lagos State than what it was few years ago”.
Earlier, the General Manager, LASEPA, Dr. (Mrs.) Dolapo Fasawe who received the delegation at the agency’s headquarters said the team will be guided on how to be an effective environmental Regulatory organisation to achieve the set goals, navigate the challenges on the job, and proffer solutions in tandem with global best practices.
She took the team through a rigorous slide presentation on the mode of operation of LASEPA as well as the achievements recorded and as well as challenges encountered since her appointment as Chief Executive of the agency.
The General Manager who underscored the prime place of massive publicity and Advocacy, public enlightenment and sensitisation programmes in the image building of the organization urged the O’SEPA team to harness the knowledge acquired from the visit to restructure the agency for better achievements and the benefit of their people.
Earlier the O’SEPA team joined the LASEPA’s Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Team on an Advocacy visit to coca-cola Headquarters at Ido against Plastic Pollution.
At the event Dr Dolapo Fasewe sought the support of the multinational soft drink company in LASEPA’s upcoming Campaign against Plastic Pollution in Lagos State tagged “TRASH FOR CAN”.
According to her the campaign that will be taken to all the major beverages and drinks Companies in the state is aimed at reducing the level of plastic pollution nuisances in tbe state which has gotten to a level of being a phenomenal of nothing is not done urgently to arrest the ugly trend.
