
ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES JOINT ELECTRICITY FRANCHISE COMMITTEE
The Ondo State Government has officially inaugurated a Joint Committee on Electricity Franchise, as announced by the Special Adviser on Power and Commissioner-Designate, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi. The committee, formed in partnership with BEDC Electricity Ondo Limited (BEOL), is expected to submit its report within four weeks.
According to a statement signed by the Media Officer to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power, Debbie Funmilayo, the inauguration follows an earlier agreement reached on May 29, 2025, between the State Government and BEOL, which called for a collaborative framework to improve electricity access, availability, and affordability across the state.
Speaking during a press briefing held after a virtual meeting with BEOL representatives, Engr. Alabi affirmed the government’s commitment to fast-tracking franchising arrangements for communities with critical Power needs, with the aim of driving energy development statewide.
In support, Engr. Tunji-Light Ariyomo lauded the initiative as a timely government intervention that promises to shape the quality and efficiency of electricity delivery in the state.
Also responding, Mr. Opeoluwa Afolabi, Acting Managing Director of BEOL, welcomed the development, assuring stakeholders that the rights and interests of all parties would be upheld.
Committee Terms of Reference:
The Committee is tasked to:
Identify all areas within Ondo State lacking uninterrupted power supply, including clusters with critical electricity needs.
Review the proposed franchising framework with BEOL and relevant stakeholders.
Recommend implementation strategies in alignment with Ondo State Power Sector Law and regulatory bodies.
Develop practical models to enhance power delivery without violating regulatory standards.
Explore investor engagement opportunities for network improvement and energy expansion.
Propose actionable steps to increase access to reliable and affordable electricity.
Define timelines and present a comprehensive report to the State Government.
Engr. Alabi noted that the committee’s deliverables will include a detailed roadmap for electricity distribution improvements, investor engagement guidelines, and short-to-medium term strategies for energy sector revitalization in Ondo State.
