ONDO TO PARTNER FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TOWARDS ENSURING FOOD SECURITY – GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA
The Ondo State Governor, Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa has again emphasised the commitment and determination of his administration to ensure food security in the 18 local government areas of the state.
The Governor who spoke at the flag off and launch of the Soybeans Production in Ondo State held at The Ministry of Women Affairs in Akure.
It was a workshop organized by the association of farmers interested in growing soya beans.
Aiyedatiwa stated that his administration has continued to ensure farmers security and empowerment.
Reference was made to Initiatives carried out like the recent distribution of fertilizers to women in agriculture which demonstrates his administration’s dedication to ensuring food sufficiency and supporting agricultural development in the state.
The governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Dr. (Mrs) Seun Osamaye said his administration is also partnering Federal Government efforts at ensuring that soybeans farmers gets bountiful harvests.
The engagement highlighted the potential of soya beans to contribute to food security, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability in Ondo State, signaling a promising future for the agriculture sector in the region.
Key stakeholders present at the event, includes the SSA to the Governor on Agriculture, The Representative of the Commissioner for Agriculture, the President of the Nigerian Soya Beans Association, and the Executive Director of the Da-Silva Foundation and others underscored the collaborative efforts between government, farmers, and advocacy groups to enhance agricultural practices and promote the cultivation of crops like soya beans.
Soya beans were emphasized as a versatile and nutritious legume that plays a crucial role in sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
As a rich source of essential nutrients and antioxidants, soya beans are a valuable crop for vegetarians, vegans, and the general population looking to improve their dietary health.
The nitrogen-fixing properties of soya beans contribute to soil health and reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers, promoting a more sustainable and eco-friendly food production system in Ondo State.
And if well grown in the state, it can add up to the IGR of the state and even boost the international market of the state
