
ONDO TRAINS FARMERS ON YAM SETT MULTIPLICATION AND TUBERS PRODUCTION
…As Aiyedatiwa’s Aide Wemimo Akinsola urges farmers to participate in the ongoing registration
The Ondo State government has commenced training for Yam Farmers across the state on Yam Sett Multiplication and Tubers Production in Akure the state capital.
The two-day training which is being solely sponsored by the Aiyedatiwa-led administration is being carried out at no cost to the beneficiaries.
The training is being put in place in conjunction with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture(IITA) in Ibadan.
Declaring the training open at the Women Affairs Skill Acquisition Center at Alagbaka, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa represented by his Special Adviser on Agric and Agribusiness, Hon. Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola said the programme is part of the processes put in place to ensure food security and engage the youths.
He said his administration would continue to put in place all the required enabling environment for farmers to develop and succeed in their trade which he said is in the interest of all and sundry.
The Governor said training would be a continuous exercise as the programme would be extended to maize, cassava, rice, tomatoes and others.
He emphasized that farmers should participate in the ongoing registration being carried out at the State Agribusiness and Empowerment Center(OSAEC) at Alagbaka in Akure to enable them benefit from the various programmes being championed by both government and research institutes.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Forestry Services, Chief Segun Odusanya emphasized that farmers’ importance in the society can not be overemphasized.
This he said necessitated the Aiyedatiwa-led administration to put in place the programme towards ensuring food security.
In the same vein, the Administrative Secretary of Ondo State Agribusiness and Empowerment Center(OSAEC), Mr. Femi Iwajomo urged the participants to avail themselves of the opportunity which he assured wound go a long way in improving yam production.
The representative of International Institute of Tropical Agriculture(IITA), Dr. Gbenga Pelemo commended the Ondo State government for prioritising food production, noting that the research institute is prepared to keep supporting farmers across the continent and particularly Ondo State.
