
ONDO WOMEN AFFAIRS MINISTRY TO PARTNER TASK FORCE ON TRAFFIC IN PERSONS TO CURB MENACE
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs Dr. Seun Osamaye has assured of the readiness of the ministry to partner Task Force on Trafficking in Persons towards curbing the menace.
Dr. Osamaye who spoke through a phone call while virtually receiving the team led by the Secretary, Blessing Olanrewaju Esq stated that Aiyedatiwa administration will give all necessary support to the Task Force in ensuring that the menace of trafficking is curbed to the minimal level.
She said “it is unacceptable to see children being trafficked to other countries, emphasising various initiatives being put in place by government at empowering the youths and women to avoid trafficking among the youths.
Speaking earlier, the Secretary of the Task Force, Blessing Olanrewaju, Esq thanked the Special Adviser for honouring their request noting that the visit was to intimate the Ministry on the objectives of the Task Force.
A member of the Task Force, Mr Emmanuel Adaramola of Emmanuel World Children’s Foundation said the increase in the rate of human trafficking has become a great concern to stakeholders and Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as a major stakeholder should as a matter of importance incorporate trafficking awareness in all its programmes to sensitive the public.
He pleaded with the state government through the ministry for the political will to host the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) scheduled to visit Ondo State in June this year.
The Directors, Social Welfare and Child Development, Mr Adebayo Oyegunwa and Mr Mefun Tophas said the ministry would collaborate with the Task Force in ensuring that human trafficking is tackled headlong.
Responding, Director, Planning, Research & Statistics, Mr Sola Oladeji opined that stakeholders should be more concerned about the remote cause of trafficking and not the immediate cause.
He admonished various MDAs to revive their youths empowerment programmes in an attempt to curtail the exodus of youths and self-trafficking.
The Ondo State Task Force on Trafficking in Person comprises different professionals from different MDAs, NGOs and Paramilitary.
