One Week, Three Liars: The Futility of Political Propaganda in Ondo
By Allen Sowore, Esq
Paul Joseph Goebbels, one of Adolf Hitler’s closest and most devoted followers, once asserted: “There is no need for propaganda to be rich in intellectual content.” The recent antics of certain political jobbers in Ondo State give full credence to that assertion.
In just one week, three brazen lies—deliberately orchestrated falsehoods—were peddled to manipulate the people against the Aiyedatiwa-led administration.
The first was the screaming headline:
Governor Aiyedatiwa Denies Deputy Access to Lodge Over Political Struggle..
Before one could even say “Jack Robinson,” came another sensational story:
₦31 Billion Judicial Village Collapse: A Betrayal of Trust and Good Governance.
And then the most outrageous of them all:
2027: Tinubu Support Groups Raise Alarm Over Removal of President’s Campaign Billboards.
Some politicians have become maniacal—indeed legendary—in their capacity to fabricate lies and manufacture crises where none exist.
In the words of the late legendary broadcaster Kola Olawuyi: “Aiyé Mànika ooo!”
But exclamations alone cannot dispel orchestrated lies. In my usual style, I chose to see things with my own korokoro eyes. In law, the court may visit the locus in quo to clear any doubt or resolve conflicts in evidence regarding physical features. I therefore drove straight to the Deputy Governor’s official residence within the Government House grounds.
What did I find? The residence had just been remodeled, comprehensively renovated, and was ready for use.
As for the fake report alleging structural failure at the state’s new Judiciary Complex in Akure, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, led an inspection tour on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
The inspection team—comprising engineers and media personnel—went round all ten buildings in the project: the ceremonial court, modular courts A to G, the utility building, and the registry. Their finding? No structural failure whatsoever. Workers were on site, executing their tasks to specification. I also visited the day after.
And now, let’s be honest: how can any rational person allege that the easy-going Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, would order or even allow the destruction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign billboards? For what purpose?
In 2024, during the build-up to the November 16 governorship election, as incumbent governor and candidate of the ruling APC, Aiyedatiwa did not—overtly or covertly—authorise the destruction of any campaign billboards belonging to any of his 18 co-contestants. Not even his body language suggested an ounce of hostility.
But we know these political desperados: they are rabid liars. Their goal is simple—to create crisis within the system. As Yoruba elders would say: “Wón fé dá rúgbùdú sílè”—they want to sow confusion and chaos.
Creating confusion and bangarang may be their trademark, but it will not work with Lucky. This blackmail and propaganda campaign to run down the administration will remain an exercise in futility.
