The Ose Social Development Union (OSDU), a registered non-profit, non-political organization through her Education Support Fund has given out Education Support Fund to eight nominated students from four public secondary schools in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Each of the benefitting students received the sum of N25,000.
The schools selected for the maiden edition of the programme are Ekamarun Anglican Grammar School, Ifon Comprehensive High School, Ijagba/Imoru Comprehensive High School and Ute High School.
The Chairman of the OSDU Education Support Fund Committee, Dr. Benjamin Adedugbe explained that the Fund was approved by the Union’s Executive Council as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
While congratulating the students, he said the Union is delighted to know that despite challenges, some students chose to be focused, committed, dutiful and dedicated to their studies and goals.
The Programme Director of the Committee, Olusola Isijola informed the gathering that a letter of request for nomination was written to approved schools while their management boards forwarded two names of overall best students for the 2022 award.
He enjoined the students to continue to make significant and recommendable efforts to strengthen their academic pursuits.
The event which held at Ekamarun Anglican Grammar School, Ifon was attended by Mr. Famaye J.O.A the Ose LG Area Education Officer (AEO), Principals of the four schools, Prince Agegboye Kamorudeen (Ose LG ASUSS Chair) and Mr. Bode Alegbe (Secretary, National Youth Council Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter).
In another development, the Union attained historic and unprecedented landmark on Saturday, 1st October 2022 as it laid the foundation of a Twenty Five Million Naira (#25m) Club House in Ifon, Ondo State.
The project according to the Union’s President, Mr. Debo Atunwa is the First Phase of the facility which is being financed by the members and it will be completed by October 2023.
He equally opined that the project will inspire the identity of OSDU in Nigeria’s socio-cultural milieu.
The President who was enthused at the groundbreaking ceremony said the concept of a Club House came up due to non availability of a corporate cum social place to unwind in the community by members whenever they are in town.
“Some members are also nearing retirement and planning to return home, hence the necessity for relaxation spot and in the club’s overall quest to contribute to communal uplift and development”.
Mr. Atunwa further stressed that OSDU since establishment in 2010 has continued to make tremendous and significant impact within Ose community. In the Third Quarter (Q3) of 2022, the union approved the award of Education Support Fund to eight (8) selected students from four (4) public secondary schools in the LGA.
In similar vein, in 2021 the Union donated a Sienna bus to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ifon and some Motor bikes to the Ose Community Vigilante Group in a bid to ensure safety of lives and properties of the people.
In his remarks, the highly elated OSDU Project Chairman, Engr. Olarewaju Zulu Ibrahim said the foundation laying ceremony marks an epic day in the history of Ose LGA.
”I am not sure if any Forum or Club has achieved this landmark in the past. It is therefore a thing of joy for all of us”, Ibrahim stated.
The Project Committee Chairman and Chief Whip of the Union explained further that the OSDU Club House is located in a serene environment on five plots of land and will definitely be a classic center.
The Project comprises an Office complex, Inner bar, Open lounge, Relaxation spot, Conference hall.
Engr. Abiodun Ibrahim who’s the Union’s Pioneer President said ‘’ this is a laudable project and a dream fulfilled. At the completion, the project will generate some employment for our youth and add to the aesthetics and infrastructural outlook of the community”.
In his remarks, Dr. Olufemi Awani, President, Ifon Development Union who was represented by his Vice, Mr. Funsho Adeniba felicitated the Union and disclosed that ‘OSDU has been a PACESETTER all along and he prayed that God will continue to take OSDU to greater heights!
At the ceremony, prayers were offered by the Ifon Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Venerable Bunmi Aladegbami and Chairman League of Imams in Ose LGA, Alhaji Adeoba Ibrahim, who is also the Chief Imam of Ifon Central Monsque.
Other members of the Union present were: Prince Adesola Adepoyigi; Mr. Niyi Ageh, Mr. Olusola Adeniba and Mr. Folorunsho Ojomo.
The Union President used the avenue to appreciate and acknowledge the determination, cooperation, sacrifices and generosity of members to the Project and other notable initiatives so far. He submitted that the Union shall continue to play an active role in the development and growth of the localities in Ose LG.
