OVERHAUL EKITI SECURITY ARCHITECTURE – EKITI RENAISSANCE MOVEMENT CHARGES OYEBANJI
“…political gladiators should be watchful and careful in whoever they engage as their foot soldiers which more often snowballs into security challenges.”
The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has been called upon to re-jig the security architecture as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
This was contained in a press statement issued at the end of mid year Nigeria and Diaspora meeting of Ekiti Renaissance Movement (ERM) titled “Security concerns in Ekiti State over indiscriminate Killings of innocent people”
The Ekiti Renaissance Movement (ERM) condemned the recent spate of Killings in Ekiti State, describing the development as a dangerous trend.
The statement issued at the end of its meeting held in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital , signed by the acting National Coordinator Mr Francis Ogunrotila expressed disgust and regret over the Killings both recently and in the past.
The Ekiti Renaissance Movement described the development as very strange and unprecedented in both pre and post Ekiti State creation where unknown gunmen on okada kill innocent people brazenly in daylight.
“This is an indication that something is wrong with Security architecture in Ekiti State; where are the officials of the Nigeria police force, State Security Service, Nigeria Civil Defence Corp, The Amotekuns and the local Hunter ? Are they working at cross purposes? Where is the security vote for Mr Governor?”
“There is urgent need to re-jig the Security apparatus in order not to turn Ekiti State into butchered State where there will be lawlessness, maiming and killing.”
“Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji should with all seriousness call emergency State Security Council meeting and act on intelligence reports in order to find lasting solution to this deadly trend in Ekiti State.”
“It is very unfortunate to note that many lives have been lost in recent times due to total collapse in the synergy operation among all the security organisations in the State.”
According to the statement, “it is a distasteful reminder the Killings of two notable traditional rulers, POS operators, kidnapping and killing of the former Deputy vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti Professor Olaofe , several unmentioned killings and kidnapping of armless innocent people of Ekiti State.”
“As a matter of urgency, the traditional rulers , Chiefs in cities, towns, villages and other stakeholders should address the security situation so that Ekiti State residents and investors will not abandon our dear State.”
“Any security chiefs , among the police and sister- security apparatus found wanton should be quickly replaced, Ekiti residents can not continue to live in fear in the midst of Hunger and hopelessness.”
“Also, political gladiators should be watchful and careful in whoever they engage as their foot soldiers which more often snowball into security challenges.”
