Following Sunday’s attack at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa- luwa in Owo, Ondo State, health workers have called for blood donors at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo for those who sustained gunshot injuries.
Dozens of worshipers were killed at the tale end of the church service.
The attack on the church in Owo, the hometown of the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, came a week after the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Bishop Samuel Kanu-Uche, was kidnapped in Abia State by gunmen the priest later identified as Fulani youths.
The Catholic church which is less than 200 metres from the palace of the Olowo of Owo was attacked by 11.00am when the Sunday mass was being rounded off.
The worshippers, mostly children and women were killed in the attack by gunmen who were said to have thrown an improvised explosive device before they started shooting sporadically.
The victims who are recuperating are said to be in need of blood.
Workers of the Federal Medical Centre and Saint Louis Hospital, both in Owo where the dead and the injured were taken to said a total of 35 persons were brought in dead.
The church and the state government did not specify the casualty figure.
It was gathered that more deaths were recorded as those who sustained injuries died hours after the incident.
A woman who was shot in the leg was said to have died later in the evening.
