PBAT ELDERS MANDATE SUSTAINS HEALTH OUTREACH FOR ONDO ELDERS AS AKURE HOSPITAL BECOMES SURGICAL HUB FOR BENEFICIARIES
… Elders hail Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s intervention and promised maximum support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid
The PBAT Mandate Elders Forum in Ondo State has continued its commitment to the welfare of senior citizens with a follow-up phase of its health outreach initiative, as several elders are currently receiving medical treatment at Jobarteh Hospital, Akure.
The follow-up exercise comes after the successful free medical outreach earlier organised by the Forum, during which various health conditions were detected among participating elders. Based on medical findings from the initial screening, affected beneficiaries were referred for further evaluation and treatment, which is now ongoing at the specialist hospital in Akure.
The health outreach initiative was sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whose support made it possible for elderly citizens across Ondo State to access quality medical screening and care at no cost was in line with the pursuit of 2nd Term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The free medical intervention covered surgical operation, comprehensive medical checks, including blood pressure, blood sugar levels, eye examinations, prostate condition and general health assessments.
Speaking on the development, Chairman of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, Chief Erastus Akeju, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far, noting that the follow-up treatment underscores the seriousness of the initiative and the commitment to ensuring that identified health challenges are properly addressed.
According to Chief Akeju, elders currently undergoing treatment at Jobarteh Hospital are being managed for various ailments detected during the initial outreach, with medical professionals providing close monitoring and appropriate care to ensure full recovery and improved quality of life.
The Facilitator of Forum, Hon. Demola Ijabiyi described the intervention as a practical demonstration of compassionate leadership and people-centred governance, particularly towards senior citizens who often struggle with access to adequate healthcare.
Hon. Ijabiyi noted that the hospital bills including the surgery were paid for by the Minister and beneficiaries were also given transport fare.
Beneficiary elders, while receiving treatment, expressed deep appreciation to the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum and Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for prioritising their health and wellbeing, describing the initiative as timely and life-saving.
One of the beneficiaries who preferred anonymity and could not hide his feelings said the health intervention and care for the elders is unprecedented in Ondo State and he would go to any length at supporting the Minister, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo at achieving his purpose.
The PBAT Mandate Elders Forum reaffirmed its resolve to continue advocating for initiatives that promote the welfare, dignity and inclusion of elders in Ondo State, while assuring that follow-up monitoring would continue until all beneficiaries receive adequate medical attention.
