PLATEAU COURT REMANDS 20 OVER WEDDING GUESTS KILLING
Twenty suspects who allegedly participated in the killing of 13 wedding guests in Mangun, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on June 20, 2025, have been remanded in custodial centre.
The suspects were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, causing grievous bodily harm, and culpable homicide.
According to the prosecution team led by Samuel Ikutanwa, the defendants armed themselves with dangerous weapons, including firearms, cutlasses, machetes, and petrol to attack and kill the travellers.
A group of 32 family members and friends had departed Ungwan Dantsoho in Kaduna State for Qua’an Pan in Plateau State to attend the wedding of one Rabi’a Sani when their 18-seater bus, loaded with kolanuts and wedding gifts, veered off course and stopped in Mangun.
Despite informing locals that they were en route to a wedding in Jos, the travellers were reportedly attacked by hoodlums who set their vehicle ablaze, killing 13 of the guests.
However, all the 20 defendants, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Their counsel, Garuba Pwul, SAN, filed a motion for bail, but it was not heard as Ikutanwa said he had just been served with the application.
The presiding judge, Justice Boniface Ingyou, adjourned the case to October 13, 2025, for a case management hearing and ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Jos custodial centre.
