The police have arraigned one Precious Chikwendu, an alleged estranged wife of former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode before the Federal
High Court Abuja on a 5-count charge of engaging in alleged cybercrime.
The alleged action relates to her activities in contravention of the Cybercrimes Prohibition and Offences Act.
At the commencement of the proceedings, the defendant pleaded not guilty, while her counsel Alex Ejesieme, SAN, prayed for her bail, pending commencement of proper trial.
However, police prosecutor Victor Okoye opposed the bail application, saying evidence showed that she persistently engaged in violation of the administration of criminal justice act.
The court overruled the police and granted Precious Chikwendu bail on the terms earlier granted by the police.
The matter has been adjourned to June 7, for definite trial.
The nominal complainant is Senator Grace Folashade Bent, a chieftain of the APC and the first female Senator from North Eastern Nigeria, who Chikwendu accused of plotting to murder her.
Chikwendu wrote this on her Instagram page and Senator Bent asked her to provide evidence which she failed to do.
The defendant is facing a 5-count charge of cyberstalking and criminal defamation which attracts the penalty of 5 years in prison.
