POLICE ARREST THREE SUSPECTS OVER SEX WORKER’S MURDER IN AKURE BROTHEL
Three persons have been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command in connection with the suspected murder of a sex worker at a brothel located in the Cathedral area of Akure, the state capital.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, following a disagreement between the deceased and a male customer during an encounter.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, and made available to The Hope, the woman was said to have suddenly complained of weakness during the service and expressed her inability to continue, leading to a heated argument.
The customer, angered by the situation, demanded a refund of the N15,000 he had paid.
Efforts by the brothel manager and other occupants to resolve the matter proved abortive.
The customer reportedly left the premises and returned shortly with two other men suspected to be his associates. On their return, the trio allegedly attempted to forcefully recover the money.
The brothel manager, sensing danger, quickly contacted the police. A patrol team from ‘A’ Division was swiftly deployed to the scene.
On arrival, the officers met the suspects in the act of recovering the money, while the health condition of the sex worker had further deteriorated.
She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the Lafe area of Akure before being referred to the Police Hospital where she was confirmed dead on arrival.
Her remains have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Ayanlade said three suspects were arrested at the scene, while two others are currently on the run.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
The CP assured members of the public that justice will prevail, urging residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could aid the investigation.
