RAMADAN: EKITI APC LEADER DELE PHILIPS URGES FAITHFUL TO PRAY FOR PEACE AND UNITY OF NIGERIA
As faithful throughout the entire Islamic world begin another session of pertinence, soul purification and moral rebirth of Ramadan fast, Muslims have been urged to reflect deeply on the essence of the annual spiritual experience
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Dele Philips while congratulating Muslim brothers and sisters on witnessing yet another Ramadan said staying away from food, drinks and other nourishments of the flesh from dawn till sunset for a whole month would not make much meaning if piety, abstinence from carnal inequities and catering for the welfare of needy, elderly as well as other vulnerable members of society are not incorporated into daily undertakings.
While noting that Ramadan goes beyond mere spirituality as it entails physical discipline of keeping vigil for prayers, standing up for hours in prayers and constant meditation, the Aramoko-Ekiti-born party leader said the communal and economic empowerment of Ramadan is manifested in breaking of fast ( iftar ) which attracts all fasting faithful irrespective of age, tribe or socio-economic status and zakatul fit’ri given to the underprivileged members of the society at the end of Ramadan
He therefore urged the Muslim ummah to intensify prayers for the country and its leadership saying the relative stability in the price of foodstuffs and other household commodities is a testimony that the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will yield greater results with the support of all Nigerians.
Dele Philips also urged the Muslim faithful to use the period to pray for peace and unity of Nigeria.
