In line with the decision of the State government to control Out-of-Home (OOH) Structures, all political aspirants are to pay statutory levies ahead the forthcoming 2023 primary elections.
According to a statement signed by the Media Manager of the agency, Debbie Funmilayo, the development was disclosed by the Chairman Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA) Mr. Akinwande Akinrodoye while speaking newsmen at the Agency in Akure.
The Chairman noted that it became imperative to sensitize aspiring political candidates on the need to remit levies as regards signage and branding to Ondo State government coffers.
According to him, signage and branding go beyond billboard exposures, fliers, handbill or posters and each aspirant is expected to do the needful even as the primaries are fast approaching.
Mr. Akinrodoye said it was important that aspirants from the various political parties meet up with the payment criteria i.e three years tax clearance certificate and evidence of proof-of-payment for signage and branding.
“Candidates and aspirants of various political parties across the18 Local Government areas would have a specific amount to remit. A table has already been created in different categories and consultation with stakeholders were made before arriving at the amount payable,it would be fair to all”,he said.
While making reference to part of the Agency’s functions, he said ” all forms of communication during the electioneering period would be paid upon i.e posters, fliers, town criers and brand vehicle/offices”
“The levies are a one-time fee that would be paid to Ondo State government treasury account in favor of each candidate across the various political parties essentially for the entire campaign ahead the upcoming elections”
He noted that no money should be paid to OSSAA, saying that revenue payment goes directly to the State Treasury Account (TSA) its then supervised and managed by ODIRS which in turn is monitored to ensure taxes/levies return to specific revenue heads of the various Ministries and Agencies.
Mr. Akinrodoye added that the project is a tripartite collaboration as OSSAA is serving as the announcer of the project for the State government, ODIRS is the supervisor and the office of the Executive governor of the State inclusive.
The Chairman informed that starting from now till the second week of May 2022 it is expected of aspirants to make payments,, noting that the government task force would ensure monitoring and compliance thereafter.
He however warned political candidates to eschew defiance as the penalty for it would be to face the wrath of the law.
