Renewed Hope For The Disabled Initiative Urges Embrace of Digital Skills, AI by Organizations of Persons with Disabilities
The Renewed Hope for the Disabled Initiative is calling on Organizations of Persons with Disabilities across the nation to embrace digital skills and artificial intelligence (AI) tools to strengthen advocacy and awareness campaigns for the implementation of the Disability Act.
In a press statement issued by the organization recently, REHFODI emphasized that digital transformation offers a powerful opportunity to amplify the voices of persons with disabilities, improve outreach, and ensure more effective policy implementation.
“AI and digital tools can help us break down barriers, enhance communication, and make our advocacy more impactful,”
Wale Akintade, the Executive Director of the organization who recently participated in a Digital skills and Ai Empowerment Training Program for youth-led NGOs in the South West region by Rising Child Foundation (RCF) with funding support from Nigerian Youth Futures Fund and LEAP Africa is of the opinion that if persons with Disabilities can jointly create a formidable voice of serious action and using the power of digital tools to create an advocacy movement, it is very sure that disability issues would be met by the government.
“We believe that empowering DPOs with these skills is essential for advancing inclusion and accountability in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Disability Act.”
“One of the major benefits of the training was to equip stakeholders working on various thematic areas to imbibe the usage of digital skills and Ai tools to get their works done and done better and faster. For persons with Disabilities to explore the usage of digital skills and Ai tools, they can easily create a very strong movement of positive change that they desires and get their voices heard by the government which will in turn lead to implementations of the Disability Act for the benefits of millions of Persons with Disabilities without leaving anyone behind”.
“REHFODI is urging all stakeholders—including government agencies, NGOs, and international partners—to invest in digital literacy programs and AI-driven solutions tailored to the unique needs of the disability community”.
“The statement also calls for more inclusions of PWDs in further digital skills and Ai Empowerment Trainings by different stakeholders to enable them to know more about these latest technological tools and its advantages”.
“We are urging DPOs in Nigeria to leverage on using AI and digital skills to demand their full rights as guaranteed by the Nigerian Disability Act”, Wale Akintade added.
