ROTARY INTERNATIONAL HONOURS OLUMUYIWA ADU WITH DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
…Pledges financial commitment to partner global organization to alleviate poverty
On Saturday, 2nd August, 2025, The International Cultural and Event Centre commonly referred to as “The Dome”, Akure, Ondo State received the huge attendance of de creme de la creme from all walks of life during the installation ceremony of Rotarian Funkeakpo Ken Batife as the District 9126 Governor for the 2025-2026 Rotary year. District 9126 covers Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Kwara, Ekiti and Niger states.
Rotary club is the oldest International service organization in the world .
It was founded in 1905 in Chigaco, USA. At present, it has more than 1.4 million members in about 40,000 clubs with presence in over 200 countries.
Its motto is “Service Above Self”. It is a not- for- profit organization that engages in humanitarian activities that are mainly sponsored by the volunteers. It has intervened actively in saving lives, improving standards of living, preventing outbreaks of diseases, managing disasters and other imaginable and unimaginable self- inflicted and natural calamities.
To add glamour and spices to the colourful installation programme of events, apart from lectures and speeches, some individuals were recognised for their contributions to employment generation, human capacity building, alleviation of poverty and deprivations, and community development among other acts that connote humanitarianism which align full -fledged with the cardinal objectives of Rotary Club International.
During the exploration for the right personalities to be conferred with awards, Dr Olumuyiwa Adu, the renowned Philanthropist was selected for Rotary Distinguished Service Award based on his immense contributions to Humanity.
The unbiased investigation by this respected global organization recognizes Dr Adu’s inputs in making lives better and easier within his immediate and distant environments with his talents and resources.
This award came exactly 2 weeks after Akure revered monarch, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Ogunlade Aladelusi Aladetoyibo, CFR bestowed similar prestigious honour on the Akure- born billionaire and Chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) during his 10th Coronation Anniversary at a well-attended event at the popular MKO Abiola Democracy Park in Akure.
Dr Adu is a man of many laurels that were genuinely earned through his generic leadership, excellent performances, competencies, philanthrophy and human development. He had chosen the path of positive impacts at his early age.
Dr Adu is a notable personality with outstanding intellect and generosity that have endeared him to numerous admirers and friends across the unequal layers of life.
He flows with compassion and radiates humility that is intertwined with bravery and brilliance that are genetically inherent.
Dr Adu neither prides himself as a man of means nor arrogates undeserved publicity to himself but his values easily showcase his popularity, greatness and success.
The moral lessons from his consistent recognition by the lowly and the mighty are bountiful; they tell tales that the good deeds of any man are being watched by men and will be inevitably rewarded by men and by God.
Appreciating the honour, Dr Adu displayed his readiness to partner with the global body to alleviate suffering and diseases among the down- trodden masses. Right on the podium, he donated two thousand dollars to cater for 65 widows at 50 thousand naira each in support of the ongoing widows empowerment project already designed by the Club. He promised to do more anytime the need to salvage any unforeseen circumstances arises.
In people’s reckoning, Dr Adu is a primus inter pares, towering in stature and stamina for compassionate deeds, enviable leadership traits and transformational initiatives.
According to a statement signed by Dr. Kehinde Omoniyi, his present applause has positioned him in a good spot that will definitely work for his ambition to become a Senator in the Central Senatorial District of Ondo State in 2027.
He is a metaphor- an embodiment of kindness and his dramatic entry into politics years ago has led him to build bridges across borders and to provide solutions to societal and individual challenges.
