SCORES ESCAPE DEATH AS TWO FUEL TANKERS CATCH FIRE ON ASEJIRE-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY
No fewer than 150 commuters have escaped death on Asejire-Ibadan expressway as two fuel tankers catch fire.
One of the fuel tankers had fallen in the early hours of Tuesday as law enforcement agencies mobilised to the scene of the accident.
Men of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Road Safety Officials were initially at the scene and were later joined by men of the fire services.
However, for an accident that reportedly occured early in the morning, it was a surprise that two tankers later caught fire in the afternoon.
Naija Parrots gathered that another tanker was deployed to siphon the content of the fallen one but the effort led to the fire that also caught the second one.
The situation therefore caused gridlock as only police officers and road safety officials were at the scene without the presence of fire service officials who could have put out the fire raging on the two heavy duty vehicles.
Those who spoke with Naija Parrots at the scene lamented lack of safety precautions by the leadership of Nigeria as safety of lives and properties could not be guaranteed if the fire escalates.
As at the time of filling this report, motorists are in fear as none could predict what could eventually happen.
They therefore called on fire service officials from both Oyo State and the federal level to quickly swing into action to safe lives and properties.
