SOUTHWEST SSGs HOLD DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT IN AKURE
The Secretaries to State Government in the Southwestern part of Nigeria are converging on Akure the Ondo State capital for a summit.
The summit holding from Wednesday December 3rd to Friday December 5th is being put in place in conjunction with the Development Agenda For Western Nigeria Commission.
Welcoming his colleagues from the Southwest States at a get-together in Akure, Ondo State SSG, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti said the deliberation is to reflect on the past, assess the present and project into the future.
While noting that the states can achieve more by coming together in the interest of the generality of the people, Dr. Fasoranti assured that structures and processes have been put in place to ensure hitch-free deliberation.
He emphasized that the southwest states should work together to justify the level of development witnessed in the region as propelled by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
He used the opportunity to acknowledge the giant strides being recorded by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in various sectors of the economy.
He added that a peer review mechanism will also go a long way in replicating interventionist programmes and policies that would impact positively on the lives of the people.
Also Speaking, Director-General of DAWN Commission, Oliseye Oyeleye expressed the hope that the collective agreement of the Governors will continue to rekindle the hope of the people in democratic institutions.
While commending the Governors for the decision to set up security trust fund to fight insecurity, he stressed that other sectors of the economy would be improved upon.
Oyeleye commended the Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as well as the Secretary to the Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti for their level of commitment to ensure that the summit is held.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Cabinet and Special Duties Unit of the Governor’s Office, Pastor Adeyemi Adeyemo assured that the state is prepared for a memorable hosting geared towards achieving overall development of both the land and the people.
