
STOP PARADING YOURSELF WITHOUT APPROVAL – AIYEDATIWA WARNS OBASHIP ASPIRANTS
The Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa has warned aspirants into Obaship positions to refrain from parading themselves as Obas without government approval.
The Governor gave this warning at peace meetings with Ijare and Ero communities in Ifedore Local Government Area over Obaship tussles in the communities.
Aiyedatiwa warned that the government will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone attempting to truncate the peace of the State by forcing themselves without due process.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro said by government’s records, there are no Obas in Ijare and Ero and anyone that acts otherwise will be severely dealt with.
Setting the records straight, Aiyedatiwa said government has continued to be neutral in Obaship selection process as it believes it should be solely responsibility of the communities to choose whoever deserves to be their king.
He urged residents of the state to continue to maintain peace, noting that development can only take place in a peaceful environment.
While appealing to all aggrieved parties to sheath their swords, put aside selfish interests and allow the interest of their communities superceed theirs, Aiyedatiwa reflected on the benefits communities without sitting Obas loose by not having representation in the Obas’ Council.
He further added that government recognises and have reverence for the traditional institution as partner in progress, promising that his administration will continue to enhance Obas and prioritise their welfare.
At the meeting with stakeholders from Ijare, Prof. Busuyi Mekusi, Prince Oluwagbemigun and Prince Oluwajana Oluwadaisi who spoke on behalf of the Omo Owas, after expressing their grievances, praised the government for various efforts made to reconcile aggrieved parties.
They promised to resolve their internal crises, put aside selfish interests, mend fences and get back to the government in no distant time.
A prominent son of Ijare, Barr. Adedife Oni who represented the President of the Elewe Obi Socio – Cultural Society thanked the government for midwifing various peace meetings and processes aimed at maintaining peace and order in Ijare.
According to the Head of Media in the Ministry of local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abooluwa Famakinwa, the kingmakers, Omo Owas and Elewe Obi Socio – Cultural Society agreed to go home, withdraw all Cases from the Court, resolve all differences and get back to government to commence a peaceful selection process.
