SUSPECTS ARRESTED OVER ABDUCTION, KILLING OF EX-EKITI VARSITY DVC
Some suspects have been arrested over the abduction and death of Olorunfemi Olaofe, the former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.
The apprehension of the suspects was disclosed on Wednesday by Adeniran Akinwale, the state Commissioner of Police.
Akinwale, who confirmed the death of Olaofe, vowed to bring those behind his kidnapping and eventual death to book.
The 79-year-old retired professor of chemistry and his guard were said to have been kidnapped in his Ado-Ekiti residence on July 9, 2024.
He reportedly died in the kidnappers’ den and his remains found in a shallow grave along Airport road.
The late don was a native of Are-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Olufemi Oke, the President of Are-Ekiti Progressive Union, described the death of Olaofe as a great loss.
“It is with heavy heart that we announce the untimely death of our Community Leader.
“The information was given to the Executive of Are-Ekiti Progressive Union today in our meeting with the security agents of government.
“His remains was found in a shallow grave along Airport road.
“This is indeed a great loss to Are-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria and the Global Academic Community,” Oke said in a statement.
