The National President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday, has reaffirmed the commitments of the Union’s leadership, as partners in progress, to continue to keep faith with her motto “Service For Progress” never to relent in doing the needful as occasion demands for workers in Nigeria
The National President made this commitment in Abakaliki , on Wednesday 11th June, 2025 during the 7th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Civil Service Union Ebonyi State Council, with the theme *”BUILDING RESILIENCE AMONG CIVIL SERVANTS IN CHALLENGING TIMES “* held at REMERITONA HOTEL AND SUITES, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The National President who is also the National Vice President Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) further reiterated that the Nigeria Civil Service Union as a pioneer Trade Union movement in Nigeria, being established since August 19th,1912 will continue to advocate, agitate and champion the cause of workers and members without wavering.
The National President of the Union who was represented by the Ag. General Secretary of the Union Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, at the 7th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference stated that “the Union is not known to be praise singers of Governments, given our role as defenders of workers interests; a responsibility we have carried out since the formation of this Union in1912 till date”.
However, “it is equally important to acknowledge the performance of any Public Office holder, who in his good mind, magnanimity and humane nature could govern very well without subjecting workers to ridicule and psychological trauma hence, our recognition and Award presentation of “Exemplary Leadership in Public GOVERNANCE in Nigeria to His Excellency, RT HONOURABLE, BUILDER PRINCE FRANCIS OGBONNA NWIFURU, FNIOB FCAI , GGCEHF the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State and other notable Principal Officers of the State Government, which is in tune with the above assertion.
The Executive Governor who was represented by Hon. Chief Mathias Adum, The Principal Secretary to the Governor of Ebonyi State, had earlier promised, while declaring the conference opened , not to disappoint Ebonyi State workers and entire Ebonyi State people, “the salt of the nation ” in discharging his responsibilities with fear of God and fulfilment of all his campaign promises
The Governor commended the leadership of the Union both at the National and State levels for their sense of responsibilities and maturity as they continue to navigate the Union with scientific model of leadership with conscience.
Justifying the Award bestowed on the Governor and other principal officers of the administration, the National President revealed that from the Union’s radar we were able to garner the following achievements of His Excellency’s Administration:-
* Implementation of the New National Minimum Wage through Negotiation and collective bargaining Process.
* Payment of Outstanding Gratuities from1996 till date which was duly acknowledged.
* Recruitment of Staff into the Public Service of the State
* Payment of Christmas Bonus to Public Servants in Ebonyi State across board for two(2) consecutive years 2023 and 2024 of the sum of #100,000 and N150,000 respectively.
* Provision of massive infrastructural development
* Paradigm shift towards massive Agricultural Development
* Creation of enabling environment for Business to thrive and above all
* Provision of Security in and around the State just to mention a few.
The Union was able to verify and hereby acknowledged that these are great improvements on what the workers in the State experienced before now, as to these achievements , His Excellency merited the Award.
It is very desideratum that the above enumerated achievements are what are expected of successive administrations in Nigeria across the States for growth and development to thrive in all ramifications at all tiers of government in Nigeria .
It is very expedient to re-emphasize that honour done the Executive Governor and other principal officers today is to put it on record as very historic and a landmark event for the Union to have resolved to honour His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State and some notable Principal Officers of his Administration for the good work they are doing in the State, especially as ” it affects the welfare of the workers nothing more and to further motivate them to do more for workers and humanity.”

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance

The event was attended by notable government officials, Labour veterans, former General Secretary of the Union Comrade (Pastor) Gerald Ukeni who is from Ebonyi State, Comrade Okoh, rtd Deputy General Secretary of the Union Comrade Chris Nnubia, Comrade Daniel Otakpo AGS HOD Administration and Establishments, Comrade M. Ekwe, the outgone State Chairman of Ebonyi State, all South East State Chairmen and Secretaries of the Nigeria Civil Service Union among others, thereafter, new leadership emerged after the peaceful conference under the State Chairmanship of Comrade Nwiyi Uchenna.
