WHY WE ARE PHASING OUT WOODEN ELECTRICITY POLES IN ONDO – AIYEDATIWA’S AIDE
In a bold step toward strengthening its power infrastructure, the Ondo State Government is considering a total ban on the use of wooden poles for electricity distribution.
The initiative was revealed by Engr Johnson Alabi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Power and Commissioner- Designate.
Speaking on the proposed reforms, Engr Alabi highlighted the government’s intention to replace wooden poles with more durable concrete alternatives.
The move, he said, is aimed at improving grid stability, reducing power outages, and enhancing safety across the State.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to building a resilient and modern energy infrastructure that will meet the demands of residents and attract meaningful investment,” Alabi stated.
Concrete poles, which are more resistant to weather and fire hazards, are expected to significantly lower maintenance costs and improve the long-term reliability of power delivery.
Stakeholders have praised the proposal, expressing optimism about the positive ripple effects it could have on economic growth and quality of life.
If adopted, the policy will mark a transformative shift in how electricity is distributed across Ondo State, signaling a new era of efficiency and sustainability in public utilities.
