Following the intervention of Ondo State government, members of the Petroleum Marketers and Dealers Association of Nigeria in Ondo State have agreed to shelve their planned strike to protest what they described as unfriendly business environment.
The decision was taken after a meeting with the State Commissioner for Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources, Engr. Rasaq Obe in Akure.
The commissioner had invited the leadership of the association following the lingering fuel scarcity being witnessed in the state with the hope of arriving at a win-win situation that would benefit both the residents, government as well as the petroleum marketers.
The Chairman of the Petroleum Marketers and Dealers Association, Mr. Bayo Olowokere who appreciated the intervention of government said activation of price band for independent marketers different from that of major marketers as practised in some states could play significant roles in ameliorating the escalating fuel crisis.
Olowokere pointed out that their members face a number of hurdles in getting the products from various depots to the state, thereby increasing the landing cost.
Responding, the Commissioner for Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources, Engr. Rasaq Obe said the state government had always prioritized creation of enabling environment for the people irrespective of the business activities they are involved and emphasized that structures and processes would be put in place to ensure that government create a way out of the situation.
The commissioner stressed that his office would collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to navigate the challenges involved and thanked them for believing in the administration of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN by shelving their planned industrial action.
Engr. Obe appealed that all concerned would have to play roles to ensure that hardship being faced by the people, especially market women and children of school age as well as public servants is reduced to barest minimum.
