Business activities are in progress at the markets in Isikan in Akure South Local Government Area in line with the earlier directive of the Iralepo of Isinkan Kingdom, Oba Oluwagbemiga Ajimokunola Olofin-Adimula (Arulewolasi III).
The Deji of Akure had issued a statement ordering all markets in the state capital to be shut even in line with the practice to celebrate annual Aheregbe festival.
In a swift response, the Iralepo of Isikan, Oba Olugbenga Ajimokunola also issued a counter statement that historically, the celebration never extended to the Isikan territory.
He therefore ordered that market women and traders in Isikan should open shops and disregard the Deji of Akure, emphasizing that Isikan is an independent town as recognised by law.
Meanwhile, in a chat with newsmen, the Iralepo said following the Intervention of the State Government through the deputy governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the palace had told the market women to shut the markets.
The traditional ruler said the decision was taken to allow peace to reign and not because of the Aheregbe festival which he insisted has nothing to do with Isikan people.
As at Monday morning, while markets in most parts of Akure are shut down to celebrate the festival as directed by Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, the Deji of Akure, markets and shops in Isikan were open for business.
Naijaparrots reporter, Demola Kunlere who spoke with residents in the state capital observed that the recent decision must have been fuelled by the recent recognition and installation of the Iralepo as well as presentation of instrument of appointment and staff of office to the monarch.
Presence of security operatives was noticed around the capital city especially Arakale road to Isinkan roundabout to prevent breakdown of law and order.
Residents of the state capital had been apprehensive following the statements issued from the two palaces over the festival.
