Two siblings have reportedly died after a one-storey building collapsed in Kano state.According to reports, the incident happened on Friday, October 7, 2022.
The siblings who were killed in the incident were said to be aged 15 years and 11 years. However, it was learnt that the eldest sibling aged 17 years was rescued alive.
The spokesman of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, stated on Saturday in Kano that the house was located in the Kofar Mata Hauren Gadagi area of Kano.
“We received a distress call at about 10:50 p.m. from one Jamilu Salisu-Zango that the 50 feet x 40 feet structure used as dwelling house collapsed from the top floor.
“We sent our rescue team to the scene and the three siblings were brought out of the debris. Two of them were unconscious,’’ he stated.
Abdullahi added that the victims were rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Special Hospital for medical attention where doctors confirmed two of the siblings dead.
The corpses were handed over to the police at Kofar Wambai Police Station, while an investigation into the accident went underway, he stated.
This incident added to the recent high-building collapse being experienced across the country.
In August 2022, two children died in a building collapse at Adeleye Street, Lady Lark, Bariga area of Lagos state.
Also, on September 5, 2022, a seven-storey building under construction collapsed at Oba Idowu Oniru Street, in the Lekki area of Lagos state and killed six persons.
A few days after, a four-storey building under construction collapsed in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, leaving many injured.
Another storey uncompleted five-storey hotel building in Ibadan collapsed in the same month with many casualities.
