EKITI LG ELECTIONS: APC LEADERS CALL OUT GOVERNOR’S BROTHER, SPECIAL ADVISER OVER ALLEGED PLANS TO HANDPICK CANDIDATES
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ekiti State have appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji to call his brother, Lekan Oyebanji to order over an allegation of compiling names of preferred candidates for the December local government elections.
The leaders who spoke with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti alleged that the governor’s brother had been working in alliance with the former Chairman of the party who currently serves as Special Adviser to Governor on Political Matters, Chief Jide Awe.
According to Chief Philips Oguntola from Oye local government area, “our sources have it that “Mr. Lekan Oyebanji has been working with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Chief Jide Awe to work against the choice of the people by influencing leaderships to handpick those who not been working for the party as the local government elections approach.”
“We are aware that same scenario is being carried out in other local government areas and council development areas in the state with the aim of being in control of the leadership at the third-tier of government after the election”, Oguntola added.
Similarly, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, another party leader, Alhaji Sikiru Akintade who said he has been a victim of the plan in the past however made it clear that Governor Biodun Oyebanji couldn’t have been aware of the clandestine moves by his Special Adviser, Chief Jide Awe appealed to the Governor to call his brother to order.
“We voted for Governor Biodun Oyebanji and not Lekan his brother as we were confident that he has the capacity and the governor has never disappointed us in all ramifications.”
“Anyone who has been following his activities would attest to the fact that Governor Biodun Oyebanji has indeed been justifying the confidence reposed in him but we are appealing to him not to allow the duo of his brother, Lekan Oyebanji and Chief Jide Awe to become a cog in the wheel of progress in the state.”
“We are raising this alarm to avoid a situation where the party would be thrown into crisis which may eventually affect us in the nearest future, Akintade warned.
Efforts to speak with Chief Jide Awe and Lekan Oyebanji were not successful.
