HOW MEDIA ADVOCACY, PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT ROLES EARNED OSRC BOSS, KUNLE ADEBAYO ENVIRONMENTAL AMBASSADOR AWARD
…The recognition which took place at the annual OSEPA Summit was witnessed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Minister of Environment, Dr. Salako and many other stakeholders.
The various commitments of the
Chairman, OSRC media group Mr. Kunle Adebayo towards ensuring environmental protection has earned him an Environmental Ambassador Award.
The award was conferred on him at a Summit organised by the Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency with the Theme,” Combating The Menace of Plastic Pollution in Ondo State” In Akure.
The key environmental issues facing Nigeria include land degradation, deforestation, and land, water and air pollution among others.
Ondo State as an integral part of the country is not immune as residents in flood prone areas would not like to pray for rain just as strategic locations especially in the state capital had heaps of refuse dumped indiscriminately.
Realising the dangers, OSRC TV, Orange 94.5 FM and Sunshine 96.5 FM Alalaye took the battle against the trend head long through series of news reportage and programming.
Thanks to the Chairman, Mr Kunle Adebayo who gave direction and courage by spearheading the media advocacy and public enlightenment.
Now, it has paid off with a better channelization all around and cleaner and more coordinated society.
These efforts have not gone unnoticed, as Mr Adebayo walked tall at the International Events Centre, The Dome in Akure, Ondo State capital where the media guru was honoured for his contributions to environmental protection.
Mr. Adebayo explained that plastic waste is one of the major challenges facing the environment and human existence, noting the need for a collective responsibility towards the protection of the environment.
While appreciating OSEPA for the award, Mr Adebayo pledged continued support for the agency to achieve its mandate through its news and programmes content in educating the people on the dangers of plastic wastes and benefits if recycled.
The Head of Service, Bayo Philip described the summit as a wake-up call for residents of the state, that the time to get rid of plastic wastes from places where they are not meant to be is now, assuring that civil service will key into the initiative for a green Ondo State .
Governor Aiyedatiwa also addressed the need to streamline scavenging operations within the state, recognizing their value but pointing out health and safety concerns.
The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Razak Salako, in his remarks, stated that the federal government is working closely with the Ondo State government to address various environmental challenges.
He commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner environment, noting that the federal government is pleased with the progress made under his leadership.
