EKITI REPS MEMBER, OMOLEYE EMPOWERS 500 CONSTITUENTS WITH TOOLS, PROMISES MORE PROJECTS IN 2025
The Member representing Ijero/Ekiti West/Efon Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Hon. Biodun Omoleye, has empowered no fewer than 500 farmers and artisans with equipment tailored to their respective crafts, in a bid to promote sustainable livelihoods and self-reliance in the constituency.
Speaking during the 5th edition of his Strategic Empowerment Programme for Constituents held in Ijurin-Ekiti, Hon. Omoleye said the initiative was designed following consultations with community members to identify their most pressing needs.
He emphasized that the empowerment was carefully and deliberately considered towards ensuring that the right tools were given to the right people, adding that all 33 wards in the constituency were included in the distribution process that cut across party lines to ensure fairness. He appealed to those who had not benefited to be patient as it would soon be their turn.
“There is no need to give a carpenter a clipper or a photographer a shovel. Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar. Today’s empowerment is designed to put round pegs in round holes,” he said.
The lawmaker appealed to beneficiaries not to sell the tools provided, but to make meaningful use of them to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the local economy.
Looking ahead, Omoleye unveiled a lineup of projects slated for execution in 2025, including bursaries and scholarships for over 1,000 students in higher institutions, rural road rehabilitation, expansion of solar street lighting in farmsteads, erosion control efforts and the construction of a new ICT Centre at the College of Health Technology in Ijero.
He further revealed that Aramoko township road would be rehabilitated and asphalted, additional school buildings would be provided and market women as well as commercial motorcyclists (okada riders) would also benefit from targeted support programmes.
Highlighting his achievements over the past year, Omoleye listed the installation of solar-powered streetlights across several communities, including Efon, Okemesi, Ipoti, Ita-Ido, Ijurin, Itawure and parts of Erijiyan Ekiti, saying the efforts were aimed at boosting night-time commerce and improving security.
Other achievements recorded include construction of three block of classrooms at Ipole Iloro-Ekiti Commercial Secondary school, distribution of mattresses to the school of the deaf, Ikoro-Ekiti, provision and installation of transformers at Efon-Alaaye, capacity building and skills acquisition training organized for the youths and women across the constituency, first phase construction of Ijurin -Ilogbo road, among many intervention programmes.
The lawmaker also commended the progress made in women empowerment through adire and baltik production, with over 100 women already trained and equipped.
He hinted at an upcoming Adire Festival to showcase their products and promised to help the beneficiaries form a cooperative society with financial backing.
To cater for youths, Hon. Omoleye announced the ongoing construction of a National Youth Centre in the constituency, which will host vocational training, recreational activities, and leadership programmes to build capacity and connect local youths with opportunities nationwide.
Expressing gratitude, Omoleye thanked President Bola Tinubu, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and his wife, as well as constituents and party members for their continued support. He equally acknowledged media professionals and security agencies, with an assurance to include them in future empowerment plans.
The federal lawmaker urged constituents to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership across the state to sustain the momentum of development and inclusive governance.
Commending Hon Omoleye’s efforts, the Chairman of Iloro/Ijurin Ward B, Mr Mathew Ayoola; the APC Chairman in Ekiti West, Prince Aladeloye; and the APC Chairman in Efon, Mr. Ojo Idowu, described the lawmaker as a “silent achiever” who had consistently delivered on his promises through numerous empowerment initiatives.
Similarly, members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Ademola Ojo (representing Ijero Constituency) and Mr Johnson Adeoye from Ekiti West Constituency II), lauded the lawmaker for the achievements he had recorded, urging the beneficiaries to put the tools to good use.
In their own contributions, former lawmakers in the Ekiti state House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Odebunmi, Gabriel Ogundele and Adebayo Idowu affirmed that the empowerment programme was inspiring, adding that they were not surprised as giving back to the society has always been the trademark of Hon. Omoleye.
Traditional rulers, including the Oluloro of Iloro-Ekiti, Oba James Olugbesoye and the Ojurin of Ijurin-Ekiti, Oba Joachim Ajibola, also praised Mr Omoleye for the magnitude of the empowerment and advised APC members to shun divisive tendencies and rally support for the lawmaker’s developmental strides.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr Samuel Dada and Mrs Christiana Oluwafemi, expressed gratitude to the federal lawmaker, describing the empowerment as a life-changing opportunity that would enhance their socio-economic status.
Items distributed at the event included deep freezers, sewing machines, power generators, barbing clippers, hair dryers, wheelbarrows, shovels, grinding machines, plant sprayers, welding and vulcanizing tools, among others.
The event was well attended by prominent individuals, including royal fathers – the Olojudo of Ido Ekiti, Oba Ilori Faboro (represented), the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adewole (represented) member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Akeem Jamiu, and several APC stalwarts in Federal Constituency II among others.
