
BLUE ECONOMY IN FOCUS AS NIPSS SEC 47 PARTICIPANTS VISIT NAVAL BASE, ARAROMI BEACH IN ONDO
The need to tap into the blue economy to create job opportunities for the teeming youths and boost the economy of the country has again been stressed.
This was the focus of discussion during the visit of the participants of NIPSS Senior Executive Course 47 of National Institute For Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru to the Forward Operational Base of the Nigerian Navy in Igbokoda the headquarters of Ilaje local government area of Ondo State.
The visit was part of the components of the study tour of the state being carried out by the participants drawn from the various sectors of the economy.
The essence of the study tour was to assess the visibility of the blue economy and make contributions on how it could be harnessed for the betterment of the people and the nation in general.
The Commanding Officer, Navy Captain A.Usman explained the essence of blue economy, its challenges and the the way forward for the country.
He emphasised that it is a sector that has the potentials not only to turn around the economy but also make the country an envy among comity of nations.
The event featured a lecture delivered by Operating Officer, Lt. Maleek Morgan
who analysed the nitty gritty of blue economy its place in boosting economic activities.
Morgan explained the duties of the Nigerian Navy and how it has been struggling to ensure effectiveness of blue economy in Ondo State and the country at large
The event also featured question and answer section as the platform provided opportunity for participants to interrract and expressed the hope that the study tour would play significant roles in prioritising blue economy.
In his remarks, representative of the Director of Finance and Administration, Dr Mohamed Usman commended the Commandant for shedding more light on blue economy.
He assured that the study tour would not only impact on the sector but also find a lasting solution to some of the problems facing the country.
The team later proceeded to Araromi Seaside in Ilaje local government area where the participants met the Alara of Araromi Seaside Oba Olawale Adeoloye.
The meeting provided opportunity for the traditional ruler to re-echo call on government at all levels to boost tourism activities.
The participants eventually visited the Atlantic Ocean where they also marvelled at the existence of nature in the state.
