IFON PATRIOTIC MOVEMENT VOWS TO RESIST IMPOSITION OF MONARCH ON ANCIENT TOWN
The leadership of the Ifon Patriotic Movement has urged the Ondo State Government not to be involved in what it describes as illegal planned selection of a new Olufon.
In a letter signed by the President of the Movement and the Secretary , Mr. Muyiwa Oludare and Mr. Banise Amudeli respectively, the group vowed to resist any imposition of “an unpopular candidate as monarch on the community will be totally resisted and rejected by the people of Ifon town”.
The group further stated that “a particular contestant from the Umaugba ruling house that has been presented to the Ifon kingmakers and rejected by them is still allegedly parading himself as a candidate that is allegedly enjoying the support of the government.
In view of the Obaship crises being presently witnessed in some communities in Ose local government area, the group pleaded that government will avoid what should lead to a fresh Obaship crisis in Ifon, the local government headquarters.
The group appealled to government to recognise the usual rotation in any of the two Olufon chieftaincy declarations of 1968 or 1981.
The group made case for nominations from either Erunogbe or Ogenuwa ruling houses to the kingmakers as the next in line to the Adaniken ruling house in the two chieftaincy declarations.
“It is against the principle of equity, fairness and natural justice for Umaugba ruling house to be made to succeed its own successor, Adaniken ruling house, in a community that has more than two ruling houses, the group concluded.
