ADC Gains Momentum in Ondo as PDP Chieftain Defects
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recorded a major boost in Ondo State following the defection of Barrister Balarabe Abiodun Akinwumi, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akure South Local Government Area.
Akinwumi officially joined the ADC on Wednesday at a colourful ceremony held at the Akure Town Hall, attended by prominent party leaders from the state and national levels, alongside supporters and well-wishers.
The former PDP stalwart, who is aspiring to represent Akure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, had earlier received his ADC membership card at his Ijomu/Obanla Council Ward, pledging commitment to the party and grassroots-oriented politics.
Addressing party members, Akinwumi said his decision was driven by the ADC’s ideology and commitment to inclusive governance.
He described the party as a vehicle for social justice and a platform capable of repositioning Ondo State and Nigeria for sustainable development.
He criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of policies that have negatively affected the welfare and living standards of Nigerians, and called on citizens to embrace alternative leadership.
In his response, the Ondo State Chairman of the ADC, Asiwaju Ayowole Ademoyegun, welcomed Akinwumi, assuring him of full integration and active participation in the party’s affairs.
Ademoyegun added that the defection had further energised the party, urging members to intensify mobilisation as preparations begin in earnest for the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders and supporters at the event expressed confidence in the ADC’s growing influence, stating that the party is ready to provide a viable alternative to the ruling party at both the state and national levels.
