ONDO TO LAUNCH O’DATIWA WOMEN COOPERATIVE SOCIETY TO MARK INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
The Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, has reiterated the Aiyedatiwa-led renewed commitment to advancing the rights, justice, and empowerment of all women and girls as the world marks the 2026 International Women’s Day.
In a press statement issued in Akure to commemorate the annual celebration, Dr. Osamaye noted that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” as adopted by the United Nations, highlights the urgent need to dismantle barriers that continue to hinder gender equality across the world.
She explained that the theme emphasizes that the Ondo state government is strengthening the laws to address discrimination and harmful social norms that limit the full participation of women and girls in society.
She said the state government is set to launch O’datiwa women cooperative society to assist women have financial literacy and Empowernment.
According to the Governors Aide, International Women’s Day provides an opportunity for governments, institutions, and individuals to reflect on the progress made in promoting gender equality while also intensifying efforts to close existing gaps.
The Commissioner also referenced the widely recognized “Give To Gain” campaign associated with this year celebration, which encourages mentorship, collaboration, and investment in women as critical tools for driving sustainable development and social progress.
She applauded the Ondo state Governor, (Dr) Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs Esther Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa for empowering women and also strengthening families to contribute significantly to the economic growth and stability of their communities.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Ondo State Government under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to promoting policies and programmes that support women’s empowerment, gender equity, and the protection of the rights of women and girls in the state.
She urged stakeholders, civil society organizations, and community leaders to continue supporting initiatives that promote education, economic empowerment, and leadership opportunities for women.
The Commissioner further encouraged women across the state to remain resilient, united, and actively involved in shaping policies and decisions that affect their lives and communities.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 every year to recognize the achievements of women and to advocate for gender equality and the protection of women’s rights.
