PRIORITISE THE LIVES OF NIGERIANS; A CALL TO YOUR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
Onimoero Alejo Olatunde Osumare
It is becoming increasingly difficult to understand the priorities of our leaders in Nigeria. Daily reports clearly shows that innocent citizens are exposed to insecurity, economic hardship, and uncertainty about what tomorrow holds.
In many communities, people can no longer sleep with both eyes closed, while businesses struggle to survive under harsh conditions.
Yet, despite these pressing challenges, political campaigns and power calculations have already taken center stage.
Instead of seeing a united effort to address insecurity and improve the welfare of citizens, we are witnessing politicians and their followers moving around the country, positioning themselves for the next election cycle.
The reality is that a government’s first responsibility is the protection of lives and property. When citizens cannot travel safely, farm peacefully, or conduct their daily activities without fear, every other achievement becomes secondary.
Nigerians are not asking for miracles. They are asking for leadership that puts people first. They want leaders who will focus on security, job creation, economic stability, quality education, and healthcare. They want a government that listens to their concerns and responds with action rather than political rhetoric.
There is nothing wrong with politics or campaigns in a democratic society. However, when political interests begin to overshadow the urgent needs of the people, it becomes a matter of concern. Our leaders must remember that the true measure of leadership is not the number of supporters gathered at rallies but the number of lives improved through effective governance.
Nigeria can only move forward when the welfare and security of its citizens become the highest priority. Until then, political activities will continue to appear disconnected from the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.
