AKURE TO SHUT MARKETS FOR ‘AHEREGBE’, ‘AMOLE’ FESTIVALS
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has directed the closure of all markets, shops and stalls across Akure, Ondo State, on August 17 and September 1, 2026, to mark the annual Aheregbe and Amole festivals.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael.
According to the statement, the closure was part of the requirements for observing the age-long traditional festivals.
The palace warned traders and shop owners against opening their businesses or engaging in trading activities on the two days.
“Residents, market women and shop owners are kindly enjoined to take note and comply with this directive accordingly,” the statement said.
It, however, clarified that only registered pharmacies would be allowed to operate during the festivals, stressing that patent medicine stores were not covered by the exemption.
The palace further said residents would be free to move around, as there would be no restriction on human or vehicular movement during the festivals.
The statement urged residents and business owners to comply with the directive and support the observance of the traditional festivals.
