AIYEDATIWA ORDERS RENOVATION OF STATE SECRETARIAT COMPLEX
…As Head Of Service Segun Odusanya Leads Consultants On Inspection Tour Of Facilities
The Ondo State government has commenced the process of a total overhaul of infrastructural facilities at the state government secretariat complex at Alagbaka, Akure.
The State Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya and the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye led consultants and other government officials on an inspection tour of the facilities with a view to ascertaining the level of decay and the renovation required.
Feilding questions from newsmen during the inspection, the Head of Service Chief Segun Odusanya expressed delight for the initiative by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to give the building a facelift after decades of neglect.
Odusanya, who noted that some of the buildings were constructed in the late 70s and early 80s, decried how they had suffered serious infrastructural deficit and needed urgent renovation, thanking Governor Aiyedatiwa for the timely consideration.
”As we all know that the welfare of the workers is central to the heart of Mr Governor, it is part of his plans that the workers work in a very beautiful and conducive environment. We spoke about it and he gave a directive to the commissioner for Infrastructure less than a week ago and we are here today.” Odusanya said.
“As we can see, this building was built so many decades ago. So we thank Governor Aiyedatiwa for approving the renovation at this time.”
“You know when you work in a beautiful environment, it will enhance your productivity, so the workers are very happy this place is going to be given a facelift. They have never experienced this type of visit before.” The Head of Service added.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Engr. Olawoye who lauded the pride of place given to infrastructural development under ‘OUR EASE’ agenda of Aiyedatiwa-led administration, disclosed that the inspection tour was a directive of the governor.
According to him, the initiative was aimed at reducing infrastructural deficit across the state including public offices both at the secretariat and beyond.
Noting that most of the offices had not witnessed any serious renovation after several decades they had been built, he said the governor had directed an immediate comprehensive face lift of all the offices at the secretariat.
“We are here with the architects from the ministry, with the Quantity Surveyors and Engineers. We will also carry out the integrity tests before we embark on this massive renovation across the ministries.” Olawoye hinted.
He further added that the consultants would immediately start visiting the building to assess the strength of the existing building and ask questions from occupants to assist their decisions where necessary.
In his contribution, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Housing Mr. Adeduro Akinbola said workers should expect a total overhaul of the facilities as similar endeavours had been undertaken in some of the other offices such as the Hospital Management Board, Teaching Service Commission and Ondo State Electricity Board, OSEB among several others.
Reacting on behalf of some of the offices visited, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Forestry, Mr Bosun Ogundipe and his counterpart in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Foluke Tunde-daramola appreciated the government for the initiative, saying the situation had been so worrisome that the secretly pray that it does rain while they were office for the fear of likely danger posed by the old structures.
