Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has unveiled a park christened “Peace Park” at the Ikorodu road intersection by Ketu-Ojota-Lagos Ibadan expressway to serve as a point of convergence for youths and those committed to peace and peaceful co-existence.
Explaining that the Park was part of his adminstration’s commitment to heal the wounds created by the violence which trailed the #Endsars protest, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that in the last three years, his administration has continued to deliver to Lagosians promises made during electioneering and would continue to keep the peace and tranquility in the state.
The Governor described the Peace Park as a demonstration that his administration is a listening government, which delivers on its promises.
“You can see that your government is a listening one, we are handing over to our entire citizens, especially the youths who will see it as a point of convergence, unity and a means of identifying with each and everyone of them, a place where their yearnings, aspirations, and expressions can I feed be upheld and listened to, that’s why we used the word “Peace” because we believe that with peace and tranquility, there’s nothing that cannot be done. Governor Sanwo-Olu said.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello described the Park as part of the current adminstration’s effort to improve the environment in the State and the wellbeing of residents
“The Peace Park was conceived by Mr Governor to dedicate a park to the promotion of peaceful co-existence in Lagos State. And that all residents of Lagos must continue to live harmoniously and in peace.
Additionally, the concept of the master plan sets out a unique vision that incorporates scenic landscapes, recreational facilities for children and adults, plants and trees to create a sense of place and character to facilitate community engagement and social interactions.
Today’s event once again demonstrates our unwavering and strategic move towards executing developmental projects in our desire to actualize the status of Lagos not only as the commercial hub of the nation but also a remarkable tourist destination” the Commissioner stated.
In his Goodwill message, the President of the National Youth Council, Lagos Chapter, Lekan Oba commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing the welfare of youths, especially in every of his Programmes across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, assured Governor Sanwo-Olu that he and his members would mobilize other youths to vote for him and the Presidential candidate of the APC.
On his part, the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu, Mr Dele Osinowo who commended the Governor for the project, noted that the developmental strides of the Sanwo-Olu administration cannot go unnoticed in the area and Kosofe Local Government in general, especially in the construction of Roads and Bridges.
Peace Park which has an adjoining car park, consists of three gardens with interconnecting walkways and would simultaneously serve as a recreation centre for Lagosians.
