GMT INAUGURATES AKOKO NORTHWEST LG, WARD EXECUTIVE
The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), one of the leading support groups for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ondo State, has expressed confidence that the state will deliver the highest percentage of votes for the President in the 2027 general election.
The Director-General of GMT, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, made the declaration on Monday in Okeagbe, Akoko North-West Local Government Area, while inaugurating the group’s local government and ward executives for Akoko North-West.
Yusuf-Ogunleye said the inauguration of the grassroots leadership structure was part of GMT’s strategic plan to deepen political mobilization and consolidate support for President Tinubu across all communities in the state.
According to him, the exercise began in Akoko North-West to honour the group’s chief sponsor and Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who hails from the area.
“We have come to preach the good news of President Tinubu’s achievements in the last two years, what his administration has done, what it stands for and why Nigerians must continue to support him.
“Our newly inaugurated grassroots leaders must take this message to the villages, to our mothers and fathers, in their local dialects, telling them how President Tinubu’s leadership has been of benefit to this country and to Ondo State in particular,” Yusuf-Ogunleye said.
He described the President’s leadership as visionary and result-driven, adding that GMT was determined to ensure that the Renewed Hope agenda continues beyond 2027.
The GMT Director-General commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his unwavering support and commitment to the group, describing him as a true grassroots mobilizer and loyal ally of the President.
The group’s State Secretary-General, Hon. Rasheed Badmus, also hailed the minister’s role in empowering GMT to propagate the achievements of the Tinubu administration, while commending Yusuf-Ogunleye for his effective coordination of the movement across the state.
Earlier, the Coordinator of GMT in Akoko North-West, Hon. Azeez Awe, said GMT has a formidable presence not only in Ondo State but across the federation, noting that most notable political stakeholders in the state were active members of the movement.
“GMT is a movement of political heavyweights, the ‘who is who’ in Ondo politics, united by the common goal of ensuring the continuation of President Tinubu’s developmental vision,” Awe said.
Also speaking, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Oluwatoyin Japheth, emphasized that GMT’s efforts were focused on consolidating grassroots strength for President Tinubu’s re-election.
“Work has started. It’s time to propagate the good works of Mr. President. Ondo delivered the highest number of votes for President Tinubu in the Southwest in 2023, thanks to Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo’s leadership. We are ready to do even better in 2027,” Japheth said.
Similarly, Hon. (Barr.) Afe Felix, member representing Akoko North-West Constituency II, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributed his defection to the leadership qualities of the Minister of Interior.
“I joined the APC because of Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo. He inspires loyalty and results. GMT’s mission is clear. It is to ensure the reelection of President Tinubu. We are ready to deliver,” Felix stated.
On his part, Hon. Fatai Atere, representing Akoko North-West Constituency I, praised the Minister for uniting political actors in the area behind a common cause.
“There is no patriotic Nigerian who would not want President Tinubu to return in 2027. Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo first called on us to support Governor Aiyedatiwa. He has now called on us to rally behind the President, and we are fully committed,” Atere said.
The Chairman of Arigidi/Erusu LCDA, Mr. Ojo Abiola, who spoke on behalf of the newly inaugurated executives, pledged to work tirelessly to justify the confidence reposed in them.
The GMT Director-General also led the inauguration of the local government and ward executives in Ikare, Akoko North-East Local Government Area, where he charged members to intensify grassroots mobilization and promote the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration.
A chieftain of the APC in Akoko North-East, Hon. Musa Kasali, assured that the local chapter of GMT would deliver “no less than 95 percent” of votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 election.
“We are united and determined in Akoko North-East. GMT is fully on ground and we have no division. Our goal is clear. It is victory for President Tinubu,” Kasali declared.
Both inauguration ceremonies were well attended by top APC leaders and hundreds of supporters who sang, danced and expressed enthusiasm for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
