ONDO DEPUTY DIRECTOR OLUMIDE OLAIGBE RECEIVES MERIT AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION
A Deputy Director in the Forestry sub-sector of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Olumide Olaigbe, has been honoured with a merit award for his outstanding contribution to the construction of the Idanre/Ofosu office complex with five-bedroom accommodation while working as a Principal Forest Officer (PFO) in 2013.
Eulogising the recipient, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Engr. Leye Akinola, speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Forestry/Produce sub-sector, Chief Segun Odusanya, said the initiative and foresight of the officer provided staff with a befitting and conducive working and living environment.
He charged other staff of the ministry to emulate the awardee’s diligence in performing his duties.
He described the initiative as the first of its kind, stressing that the gesture was commendable and that there was a need to celebrate such initiatives no matter how many years had passed, for posterity to judge.
The Commissioner, therefore, urged the management to always reward hardworking officers to encourage others.
Also speaking, the Director of Forest Management, Dr. Joseph Adeyekun, appreciated the management for honouring one of his staff, stressed that good things could be delayed but could not be denied.
The director added that it was a deserved award and commendation, urging Mr. Olaigbe to keep up his hard work, stressing that hard work pays. “Whatever you sow, you shall reap. Today, Mr. Olaigbe is reaping what he sowed many years ago,” he said.
In the same vein, the Director of Finance and Administration, Prince Adekolurejo, said the project had greatly enhanced operational efficiency, boosted staff morale, and established the ministry’s presence in the area.
The DFA hinted that the office complex and accommodation had eliminated the burden of recurrent rental expenditure, thereby creating lasting financial and operational benefits for the ministry, and described the foresight as selfless service and commitment to duty worthy of emulation.
Reacting to the honour done him, Mr. Olumide Olaigbe appreciated the management for remembering his contribution towards improving the working environment for staff of the ministry while he was the Principal Forest Officer at the Idanre/Ofosu office 13 years ago.
He added that the award was symbolic of the fact that hard work pays and that there is a reward for it no matter the time.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity in the ministry, Sola Omoboyowa, the awardee said it motivated him not to relent in adding value wherever he works, noting that it is better late than never.
