The United Nations Population Fund(UNPF) has assured the Ondo State Government of stronger collaborations and partnerships towards improving qualitative health care delivery in the state.
The Assistant Representative and Head of Lagos Liaison Office of UNPF, Dr. Omolaso Omosehin gave the assurance in his address at a meeting of top officials of the agency with the Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka in his office on Friday.
According to a statement signed y the media manager to the commissioner, Samson Omotayo, Dr. Omosehin noted that the meeting became imperative to enable the agency’s officials interact with the Commissioner on the programmes the UNPF plans to implement in Ondo State this year.
According to him, the agency’s work plan for this year has already been developed since last year and the implementation is about to start.
Omosehin averred that there is the need to hold regular meetings which he noted would enable the agency review the state of its programmes, solicit more support and ensure that the programmes are on track.
He solicited more logistic support from the state government especially in the areas of maternal and child health.
“We are the procuring and executing agency for family planning, especially in the public sector in Nigeria. We have achieved great feats in reproductive health in Ondo State.We are moving round to see how we can improve the programme.
“Already, we have put in place a maternal death surveillance system in Ondo State where we look at every case of maternal death, review the causes and proffer lasting solutions”, Omosehin stressed.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency(OSPHCDA),Dr. Francis Akanbiemu said UNPF has been supporting Ondo State since 2015 in the area of provision of maternal, child and adolescent health services.
Akanbiemu noted that the agency has equally been providing key interventions for the state’s health system especially in reproductive health and women’s health in general.
The Permanent Secretary stated that the meeting was to further the agency’s collaborations and partnerships with the state government.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka while appreciating the UNPF officials for the visit assured them of the state government’s unflinching total support in the implementation of the agency’s programmes in the state.
Ajaka noted that such programmes would go a long way in improving reproductive health among women in the state.
The Commissioner commended the State Primary Health Care Development Agency(OSPHCDA) for its numerous laudable achievements in maternal and reproductive health in the state.
