An Aide to the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Gboyega Ajayi, has admonished Mr. Lere Olayinka, the PDP candidate for Ekiti Central constituency II, to channel his energy into winning the hearts of the people of his constituency, instead of chasing shadows by trying to manipulate the process through bogus court cases.
He described his attempt to get Biodun Omoleye disqualified as an exercise in futility and a confirmation of the fact that he is not ready for free and fair contest.
He described his desperate quest to clinch the House of Representatives slot through the back door as distasteful.
Omoleye, the Chief of Staff to Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, is expected to square up with Lere Olayinka for the single ticket of Ekiti Central Federal constituency II to the green chamber come 2023.
It would be recalled that Lere Olayinka had filed a case at the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti, seeking the nullification of the primary election of the APC that produced Omoleye as its candidate for the forthcoming House of Representatives election on the ground of an alleged irregularity.
In a landmark judgment on Tuesday, the case was dismissed for lacking in merit.
The court described the case as frivolous and declared that Lere Olayinka has no locus standi to institute the action. He was subsequently described as a meddlesome interloper.
The Judge also awarded a cost of N2million against the litigant and in favour of APC and its candidate.
But, reacting to the court judgement in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, Gboyega Ajayi said Lere Olayinka instituted the case in the first instance because he knew he neither had the wherewithal, nor the tenacity to win the February 25, 2023 election.
“Lere Okayinka’s quest to deny the people of Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II their right to freely elect their preferred candidate for the election has failed,” he said
He, therefore, cautioned PDP and Olayinka to go to the field to canvass for votes, stressing that the era of ‘jankara’ judgement had long gone.
Mr. Ajayi also advised the PDP to mend its crumbling home instead of meddling in the internal affairs of the ruling APC.
According to Mr. Ajayi, the judgement is a victory for democracy and an affirmation of the victory of the APC candidate ahead of time.
He urged the people of Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II to vote massively for Omoleye and the APC in the February election.
