IKORO-EKITI STANDS STILL AS AKPABIO’S AIDE, GBOYEGA AJAYI BURIES MUM IN GRAND STYLE
Ikoro-Ekiti, headquarters of Eso-obe Local Council Development (Area) of Ekiti State, witnessed both human and vehicular traffic over the weekend as Mama Morenike Ashabi Rhoda Ajayi was buried in Grand style.
Late Mrs Morenike Ajayi, who died at the age of eighty-six, was the mother of Hon. Gboyega Ajayi, a Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The burial attracted many dignitaries, including the former Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly and the Chairman of Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele who was ably represented by Olori Olutoyin Ajakaye, the wife of Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor Edward Olanipekun, Ondo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye, Southwest Organizing Secretary of the APC, Mr. Vincent Bewaji, Ekiti State Secretary of the APC, Mr. Garba Arogundade, Special Adviser to Ekiti State Governor on Special Projects, Architect Tope Ogunleye, member representing Ijero Constituency at the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Ademola Ojo, Executive Chairperson, Irewolede LCDA, Hon. (Mrs) Dupe Bakare, former Reps member, Hon. Ropo Ige, Chief Medical Director, Orire Hospital, Dr. Adebayo Orire and former Chairman of Ijero local government, Hon. Adeola Adeyemo, among others.
It also witnessed presence of friends, colleagues, associates and notable indegenes of Ekiti and Ondo States who showed up to commiserate with the family members, and to celebrate the glorious passage of their late Matriarch.
The two days event commenced with a motorcade from Orire Hospital, Ado-Ekiti to Ikoro-Ekiti on April 5, 2024, setting the stage for the much talk-of-the-town burial ceremony.
The requiem mass took place the following day at St. Columba’s Catholic Church Ikoro Ekiti. While delivering his homily, Rev. Fr. Victor Oladele admonished Christians to see their sojourn on this earth as temporary. Fr. Oladele said late Morenike Ajayi lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation and urged the children and family members to uphold her legacies of selflessness, generosity and kindness.
Speaking at the church Mass, Hon. Gboyega Ajayi said his mother’s death was so painful and unexpected as she showed no sign of sickness until her last day.
Gboyega, who recalled his mother’s last moment, said: ” I believe she had premonition of her death because we discussed till around 10:30pm, a day before her death and I could recall in the course of our discussion, she told me that she could die anytime, and the next day, she left this sinful world”.
Hon. Gboyega Ajayi described her mother as very caring, loving and accommodating christian woman during her life time.
“She was the sweetest mum anyone could ever ask for. She was an epitome of courage, selflessness and service to humanity”.
“She was a Christian who loved her creator through her service to mankind. I am thankful and appreciative of all those who came here and those who sent their goodwill messages to celebrate our mother’s transition to glory”, he said.
Other children, family members, neighbours and indegenes of Ikoro-Ekiti, also attested to an enduring legacies of kindness, discipline, exemplary family values, godliness and uprightness of the deceased.
The reception took place at St. Columba’s Catholic Primary School playground where guests were treated to a display of opulence, with mouth-watering menus, and an abundance of champagne, cognacs, exotic wines and choice drinks
The venue’s elegance, adorned with kaleidoscopic chandeliers, reflected the meticulous planning of the organizers. Attendees revelled in a grand atmosphere of class and camaraderie, where the air buzzed with mirth and merry.
Late Morenike Ashabi Rhoda Ajayi was born in 1938 and died on January 1st 2024. She is survived by sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
