PLANE CARRYING 181 CRASHES IN SOUTH KOREA, CLAIMS AT LEAST 167 LIVES
At least 151 people died in a deadly plane crash that occurred in South Korea on Sunday morning.
The incident involved a 15-year-old Boeing 737-800 jet, operated by Jeju Air, which burst into flames on the ground in Muan, approximately 290 kilometers from Seoul.
The plane, which was carrying 180 people, including two Thai nationals, had been returning from Bangkok, Thailand.
According to officials, the aircraft’s front landing gear failed to deploy, causing it to skid off the runway and crash into a concrete fence.
Rescue workers are still searching for bodies at the airport, where thick, black smoke billows from the wreckage.
Lee Jeong-hyeon, chief of Muan fire station, described the plane as “completely destroyed,” with only the tail assembly remaining recognizable.
The tragic incident has occurred amidst a political crisis in South Korea, which has seen the parliament impeach the president and acting president within a two-week span.
